First up....
Forrest Gump or Pulp Fiction
Let's have a fair debate over these two popular Oscar-winners and discuss our similar and opposing views. Thought it would interesting just to see where things could lead to! Please just openly jump in and contribute anything you have to say whether it be positive or negative so we can seriously talk about things. Also, if you have anymore ideas for "this or that" please let me know.

Forest Gump:
Watchable, and well made, but sappy, and it gets really old after seeing it so many times. Hanks is fine, I guess.
Pulp Fiction: Brilliantly written/made, well acted too, a must see. I don't love it, but I like it.
So, Pulp gets it for me, the only other nominee I've seen apart from these two is Four Weddings And A Funeral, and I found it dull and conventional.
Anyway, how are you?
Haha - so is this really a question? I'm glad you bring this up after your well-thought-out analysis over on my blog a couple days ago. While Forrest Gump is truly a sweet film, and I really don't have a lot of horrible things to say about it. Yes, caricaturistic at times (well a lot of times I suppose), but a nice slice of the goings-on of the century. The references can get a little tiresome as the story moves into the '80s, but Gary Sinise gives a nice performance and let's not discourage Tom Hanks from acting more often, okay?
All that said, Pulp Fiction by a landslide. I mean, it's such a layered, beautifully written, gem of a movie with nary a flaw in sight. So yeah. Sorry Forrest, but Mrs. Mia Wallace unfortunately kicks your ass.
Oh yes, Mia definetley is a vivid creation to behold, and she's a welcome femme counterpoint to the bad-ass masculinity that the film is littered with.
The film is a gleaming, faceted gem packaged with smaller gems that all cohere to form beauty. Another point of fascination comes from attempting to fully understand the hows and why's from the film overall and every detail that makes it up. What is the deeper meaning to this or that? What does the film mean? Picking apart and deeply analyzing even the smallest details results in gaining more understanding and satisfaction for the overall movie and how each entity connects. Pure fascination!
Oh come on...
PULP FICTION! By a landslide.
The question should be The Shawshank Redemption or Bullets Over Broadway...in which case, it'd be the latter.
:)
I actually have never seen either one, Andrew! I hear endless raves from the Shawshank cult groups and alot of people tell it's their favorite movie. I should probably see it, though.
Oh and I just saw Black Swan! let's talk!
